Cartographic Anxieties

March 14, 2020 6:00 am - September 30, 2020 7:00 pm

The show attempts to understand the technicalities and methodologies of everyday incursions of the majoritarian state/ society upon the 'othered' communities within and outside. This everyday shifting/incursion of the borders defined by the state/society over its people is an anachronism of the very definition of the state as post-colonial.

If cartographic anxieties are loosely accepted as the anxieties of the state when subject to cartographic aggression of the other, one has to delve into how this aggression is reflected in the everyday life of the people. This show attempts to reflect upon the anxieties which are created out of already defined or imagined boundaries and about anxieties which in turn create new boundaries. The recent spurt of blatant violence across the country is also the result of systematically programmed incursions upon the oppressed which continues every day. The genocidal violence which becomes news at a chosen hour by the powers has always been a daily reality hidden under the carpet of peace between communities in conflict.
