This thematic proposed to read through various ‘literal metaphors’ of disease and death used in the contemporary social/political/cultural contexts. The intent was not to allow the metaphors of death and disease to spill into a passive debate over their semantics, as the ruling and governing classes expect, but as something literally affecting the lives of people every day. In an inverse logic, it is by conversing about the discourse on death and disease that we grasp the reality of the discourse on life.
Our first exploration of the thematic was via a show featuring artists Arun Vijai Mathavan, G. Mahesh, Jyotsna Siddharth and Sudharak Olwe.
